The project "Enhancing the Advocacy Capacities of Disabled NGOs" was supported by the sub-grant programme "Strengthening the Advocacy Capacity and Participation of Disabled Organisations in Decision-Making Processes" as part of the "Active Citizenship is Our Right" programme: Towards the Turkish Disabled Council" programme, which was implemented by the Confederation of Disabled People. The project aimed to strengthen the organisational capacity of civil society organisations working in the field of disability in Diyarbakır and to promote cooperation with local NGOs.
The project provided rights-based training for disability organisations, organised meetings between NGOs and stakeholders, and identified NGOs working with disadvantaged groups and established cooperation.
The overall aim of the project is to empower disabled NGOs to resist discrimination and violence independently of the centre of political power and to support their more effective participation in policy-making processes.
The project aimed to contribute to the process of creating strategic strategies for action at the local level and to strengthen the advocacy methods of NGOs.
The results achieved through the implementation of the project include
- Strengthening the advocacy capacities of disability organisations,
- Raising awareness of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities,
- Effective participation of disabled children, women, youth and older people in advocacy,
- Strengthening co-operation with local NGOs and raising awareness of multiple discrimination.
The project activities include;
- Identification of organisational needs of NGOs, training,
- Training on capacity development of NGOs,
- Identification of NGOs working with disadvantaged groups,
- NGO-NGO stakeholder meetings,
- Preparation of the report and final meeting.
The project aimed to achieve social benefits through increased co-operation and communication between NGOs working on disability in the province.
It also aimed to increase the effectiveness of civil society in line with national and regional plans.
